About Violet
I understand how much pressure is put on students, especially in today's climate, and you don't always need another adult telling you you are doing things wrong or you should be doing more. When I was taking my GCSEs or A Levels I wished I had someone similar in age to me to guide me through the last year. Someone who would have helped me better my work as well as reassure me. And as a tutor, this is what I aim to do. I would like our sessions to be collaborative and provide you with confidence, rather than have you leaving the session more worried than when you entered!
At university, I am an editor and writer for the student newspaper, 'The Cherwell', and journalism is my big passion. Writing for the paper has helped me with my essay writing, making it more concise and meaningful. So, not only can we discuss tips particularly to do with History to help you improve, but I can give you advice I've learned from different writing styles to make your writing that much more interesting.
Over my two years at Oxford, I've had some overly harsh tutors, and I know how frustrating it can be when you feel as if you are being belittled or unnecessarily berated. Having had such a range of teachers, I have come to understand what the best types of tutoring look like and thus allowed me to craft the right style for tutoring, so you should not worry about the sessions being high pressure and daunting!

To ensure each session is as valuable as possible, they should ideally be 45 minutes to an hour. Because I am 20, I have a strong understanding of the current GCSE and A-Level curriculum. With this in mind, my approach to teaching is a relaxed but firm one. I expect each student to try their hardest, but I understand how much pressure goes into these types of exams, so it is nice to have a friendly face encouraging you when you feel overwhelmed. I can teach GCSE and A-level students at any level, and I am happy to device individual plans and exercises for each student.
I have previously mentored other students from my college who wanted advice on how to get to Oxford, so I understand the dynamics necessary. Furthermore, I have a 16-year-old sister who is currently taking her GCSEs who I tutor in both English and History. Therefore I feel I have the right tools to navigate teenage behaviour.
