About Mohammed

Salam Alaikum! I am a BSc Economics graduate from the University of Manchester with experience teaching Economics, Maths and English to students who want lessons explained clearly and practically. I grew up in Japan following the British curriculum. I've been both an underperforming student and high acheiving one, so I know what change is required for high performance. Having achieved an A* in A-level maths and continued with quantitative subjects in university, I am confident in my ability to improve my students' ability by at lest 2 levels over a couple of months. I have worked in finance, sales and, more relevantly, education, with now over 300 hours of private 1-to-1 tutoring experience. I did most of it in Japan, tutoring second-language English speakers rather than native speakers. This forced me to be able to explain complicated concepts - according to the student’s age – in a very concise and easy-to-understand manner, irrespective of the students' natural ability.

My technique, in a nutshell, is very basic: build a relationship with the student, grow love in their mind for the subject, and instil excitement to teach the same things they learnt. I can’t begin to tell you the difference in processing speed between students who are taught to love the subject and those who aren’t. We are wired to think success comes largely from intelligence and hard work; however, people often neglect the impact of passion. I aim to shift the perspective of the student to love the subjects they are learning before we dive deep.

See you soon!

My approach to tutoring is very simple. Build a relationship with the student, understand how they think, and then explain the subject in a way that actually makes sense to them.

I don’t believe every student learns the same way, so I try to adjust my explanation, pace and examples depending on the student’s age, level and personality. My techniques include asking the students to relay segments of the lesson in the best way they can, discuss the significance of what they’re learning so they understand the practical vision behind the theory, and encouraging them to ask as many questions as they can. I like to break things down step by step, use practical examples, and make sure the student understands the idea properly before moving on.

I also try to grow love in their mind for the subject, because I genuinely believe students learn much faster when they are interested and not just memorising for the sake of passing. I do this by giving a small level of autonomy to the student to choose what he wants to study, address where they feel behind on a topic and turn it into something their comfortable not just practising but also explaining. I can’t begin to tell you the difference in confidence and processing speed when a student starts enjoying what they are learning.

A typical lesson would usually be around 45 minutes to an hour, but I am flexible depending on the student’s needs. Some students may need shorter, more focused lessons, while others may benefit from longer sessions, especially when preparing for exams or going through difficult topics.
