About the lesson
I never assume student background knowledge. I base lessons around actual student prior knowledge, not what the “should” know. I focus on building confidence, even in advance of mastery. Each lesson I approach with a mastery goal but also, some portion of a “discovery” goal. Then expand the discovery to fill in or even expand upon the discovery goal. In short: depth over breadth.

I started teaching at a school where almost all the students struggled to pass their Texas State Tests (TAKS then STAAR). I developed methods as a teacher to succeed in doubling the passing rate. Upon promotion to Instructional coach, I incorporated my methods into the official curricula. Use of my methodology has tripled passing rate at some campuses.
