About Lauren
Learn from Experience
I’m Lauren Schelfhaudt, a 3-time United States Professional Ballroom Champion and 1-time World Professional Salsa Champion with more than 25 years of experience teaching ballroom and Latin dance.
Throughout my career, I’ve taught more than 20,000 private dance lessons to students of all ages and experience levels. I understand that starting dance can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never stepped onto a dance floor before. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and focused on helping you feel confident from your very first lesson.
I bring the experience of a professional competitor and teacher, but my lessons are never about showing you how much I know. They’re about helping you learn, improve, and enjoy dancing.
Whether you're a complete beginner, learning for your wedding, looking for a new social activity, or ready to take your dancing more seriously, you’ll receive professional instruction tailored specifically to your goals.

Learn to Dance with Lauren Schelfhaudt
My Teaching Approach
My approach to teaching dance is personal, practical, and tailored to each student. I don’t believe in giving everyone the same lesson — I meet you where you are and build from there. Whether you’ve never danced before or you’re an experienced dancer looking to improve, my goal is to make you feel comfortable, confident, and excited to dance.
A typical lesson begins with understanding your goals, followed by learning or reviewing steps, technique, timing, partnering, and musicality. I break movements down into easy-to-understand pieces and then put everything together so you can actually use what you learn on the dance floor.
What sets me apart is my experience. I’m a 3-time United States Professional Ballroom Champion and 1-time World Professional Salsa Champion, with over 25 years of teaching experience and more than 20,000 lessons taught. I’ve worked with students of all ages and abilities, and I know how to take something that may initially feel complicated and make it approachable and fun.
My lessons are for complete beginners, singles, couples, wedding couples, social dancers, and experienced ballroom and Latin dancers. Whether your goal is to learn your first basic steps, feel confident at a social event, prepare for your wedding first dance, or take your dancing to a competitive level, we’ll create a lesson plan around you.
Most importantly, you don't need to be a “dancer” to take a dance lesson. You just need to be willing to step onto the floor, I’ll take it from there.
