Throughout his education Daniel has taken music theory and history very seriously, and is experienced in analysis, composition, and improvisation in many styles. He has played in many ensembles of different sizes, from various chamber groups to symphonic orchestras and choirs, and is always seeking to collaborate with musicians from different musical scenes. Daniel is a very gifted cellist and teacher. He's has an incredible depth of understanding. Each lesson feels like a masterclass, and I come out from each one inspired, with a new set of goals. He's helped me to see all aspects of my cello playing in completely different ways. I feel very lucky to have him as a teacher.
Daniel is the best! He's sweet, incredibly talented, patient, and all around wonderful teacher. I would not have wanted to learn the cello with anyone else and I look forward to our lessons every week.
Daniel has been teaching my 12 year old daughter cello for the past 3 years. He is an excellent teacher; very patient, pleasant and attentive. My daughter loves to go to his lessons, and has also enjoyed the lessons with him over Zoom during the last year. He has a lot of knowledge and a delightful personality. I highly recommend him!
Daniel is an amazing teacher! I have been taking cello lessons from him for the last 5 years. I'm an older student (41 y.o), and started out with little musical experience and only a dream to play the cello. Daniel is so patient and supportive, with the most pleasant demeanor you can imagine. His musical knowledge runs deep, and his eclectic approach to playing and teaching the cello touches on a variety of musical genres, including classical, jazz, folk, and other styles. With his natural talent for teaching, Daniel is very sensitive to my stumbling blocks and difficulties in the lessons, and is so helpful with his clear instructions in how to break down and solve the problems. Most of all, his lessons and wisdom are very inspiring, and I am always looking forward to our next meeting. I wholeheartedly recommend Daniel as a music teacher.
I’ve been taking jazz improvisation and composition lessons with Daniel for a year now, and it would be no exaggeration to say that these lessons have been truly transformative, mind-expanding and creatively uplifting for me. Daniel is an incredibly inspiring musician and teacher, he has massively broadened my view of what is possible to do in music in general. With his help and encouragement, a whole new creative beginning in my life has come about which I previously hadn’t thought possible. Writing music has now become something I can’t imagine my life without, and it is immensely fulfilling to receive Daniel’s thoughtful and astute feedback on my writing at each lesson. At all levels - from minutiae of notation to phrasing and higher-order structuring of a piece - I’ve learned so much from Daniel. It’s been an enormous honor and joy to be guided in my first steps in composition by Daniel’s brilliant and nourishing mentorship.
Daniel is an amazing cellist and musician. His enthusiasm somehow manages to find its way to me through his teaching. He knows a lot about cello techniques, how to play relaxed, focused, and attentive to the music, the sounds of the instrument, personal ideas, and more.
I’ve been learning the cello from Daniel for over a year as an adult beginner. Besides being a great performing artist, Daniel is a true listener and eloquent communicator. He pays close attention to the student’s questions and knows his way to answer them. If you're fascinated by the sound of cello like me and would like to learn more about this wonderful instrument, I can't recommend Daniel enough for your first lesson!
The best cello teacher I've ever had.
Daniel is student centred, patient and extremely knowledgeable. His lessons are always a joy, enjoyable, instructive and rewarding.
Particularly valuable is his light and effortless playing technique - an exemplary model for playing the cello.
Thank you Daniel for your patience, pleasantness, charm and incredible teaching skills. Much appreciated!Mr. Hass is a talented and generous teacher. His depth and breadth of musical knowledge is inspiring. In three months of weekly study, i’ve learned to play several pieces on the cello and feel able to study more on my own. I’ve wanted to play cello since I was young, and was concerned about my age, as I am now retired, but Mr. Hass has shown me you certainly can teach an old dog new tricks!
