I am a strong believer in critical pedagogy. Learning is much more than memorizing facts and techniques without any actual engagement in the material. I strive to involve students in their writing, allowing them to find their own voice and what they actually want to say. To do so, I work in a very personalized, hands-on environment where traditional academic structure is less important than genuine communication and voice.
I am a psychology student currently attending college who has a passion for both teaching and learning. I've worked with a program called Gear Up 4 LA, designed to help first-generation students strengthen their applications to universities; my duties were to connect students' personal lives and experiences to their academic futures through dialogue and discussion. I've also taken several courses on essay writing and on teaching, and have received honors in English during both high school and college.
