Perfect! I had a wonderful experience learning Kathak with Bishakha! I came to her as a complete beginner in Kathak, although I have an extensive ballet background, with the very specific goal of learning movements and combinations that I could use to choreograph a music video for my own music.

She did an amazing job tailoring our lessons to my individual needs and requests. Rather than simply teaching general Kathak technique (although we covered that as well), she took the time to teach me specific movements, sequences, and combinations that worked with the character and rhythm of my music. She also emphasized the expressive side of Kathak, teaching me different movements that convey specific emotions, and we explored the Navarasas together. As a composer, I really appreciated how thoughtful and collaborative this process felt. By the end of our lessons, I had so much material that I could actually use to create my own choreography. She was incredibly patient and encouraging with me as a beginner while still giving me material that challenged me and allowed me to make the most of my existing dance background. I’m very grateful for her guidance and would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a teacher who is attentive to their individual goals and willing to adapt lessons to their specific creative needs!

The only thing I would have appreciated was a bit more advance notice when lessons needed to be rescheduled, as there were a few last-minute cancellations due to her busy schedule as a student. That said, I completely understand that schedules can be unpredictable, and overall I had a lovely experience learning from her!
