About Tessa
I am a piano tutor with 6 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Collaborative Piano. I have taught over 150 students from young beginners to adult learners across all musical styles. My lessons span classical technique, jazz chord playing, pop piano, contemporary styles, music theory, and examination preparation. I specialize in sight reading, improvisation, chord work, and expressive performance. I believe every student is capable of becoming a confident and musical pianist with the right support and encouragement. My approach is patient, structured, and always personalized to the individual. I use backing tracks, ear training tools, and notation apps to keep sessions varied and engaging. I have prepared students for ABRSM and Rockschool examinations with consistently strong results. My piano lessons follow a clear progressive structure developing skills, understanding, and musical confidence together. Every session starts with scales, finger exercises, and posture work to build healthy technique consistently. I introduce theory alongside practical playing so understanding develops naturally and meaningfully. Younger students benefit from games, visual aids, and exciting short pieces to maintain enthusiasm. Adult learners work directly on songs they enjoy while building solid underlying skills and theory. Exam students receive systematic preparation including regular mock assessments and detailed feedback on all required areas. Improvisation and composition are offered for students wanting to develop their creative musical voice. Backing tracks develop timing and genuine musical feel throughout lessons. I provide clear written practice notes after every session for focused and productive home practice. My goal is for every student to become a confident, expressive, and genuinely joyful pianist.
