About Ella

I have spent over nine years helping people of all ages discover the joy of playing the piano with confidence. My academic path began with a Bachelor of Music in Sacred Music, where I trained extensively on both the classical piano and the pipe organ. Alongside this formal background, I have spent years performing energetic historical styles like ragtime, stride, and early jazz piano.

I have a deep passion for helping both school-aged students and curious adults reach their personal goals in these historical traditions. My lessons combine the discipline of classical finger techniques with the loose, rhythmic bounce required for early jazz styles. For example, I recently taught an adult student who loved the upbeat energy of classic ragtime but struggled to coordinate their hands.

We broke down the steady walking bass line in the left hand before adding the syncopated melody in the right hand. They were absolutely thrilled when they could finally play a complete Scott Joplin song smoothly at our local community showcase. I design every lesson to be highly supportive and tailored specifically to the pace that works best for you.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is highly systematic and focuses on building strong visual to finger coordination. We will work extensively on specialized sight reading exercises, speed reading music, and quickly identifying intervals on the staff. I also put a massive focus on improving your rhythmic accuracy so you can keep a steady beat while reading new notes.

This structured approach works wonderfully for young prodigies preparing for fast classical exams and busy adult hobbyists who want to learn songs quickly. I remember working with a retired hobbyist who loved playing classical melodies but felt incredibly frustrated because reading sheet music took them weeks. We started doing short, daily rhythm drills and practiced looking ahead on the page instead of looking down at their hands.

Within just a month, they were able to sit down and play through a brand new holiday piece on their very first try. I provide dedicated, highly focused reading drills to ensure you feel supported at every stage and make rapid progress.
