About Margaret

"I am a passionate vocal coach with over 5 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education with a Voice Focus. My musical heart lies in the art of vocal storytelling, particularly through rich Jazz Standards, Broadway solos, and beautiful Golden Age repertoire. I specialize in teaching essential performance skills like swing phrasing, classic jazz ornamentation, deep character interpretation, and practical lead sheet reading.

In my studio, I regularly work with passionate adult learners, seasoned vocalists, and dedicated community theater actors who want to elevate their craft. I love showing singers how to break down a lyric like a monologue to find the true emotional core of a song. For instance, I recently helped a theater actor completely transform their audition piece by adjusting their phrasing to sound more conversational and natural.

We will work closely on blending solid vocal technique with the unique stylistic habits that make classic genres feel so alive. Our sessions will focus deeply on essential areas like choral blend, diction shaping, musical interpretation, and proper posture alignment. This balanced approach ensures you can sing with both technical precision and deep emotional expression in any performance setting.

I love working with singers who perform in small vocal ensembles and need to match their tone perfectly with others. My methods are also highly effective for performers who want to treat their voice like a versatile acoustic instrument, bending notes with ease. For example, we might practice specific vowels to help you blend smoothly during a tricky four-part harmony passage.

We will use fun, practical exercises to make sure you grasp these physical and mental skills without feeling overwhelmed. My goal is to make every session hands-on, encouraging, and tailored to how your mind and body learn best.
