About Matthew
I am a Defense Scientist with Canada’s Department of National Defense, a PhD candidate in Psychology at Carleton University, and an accomplished researcher specializing in military well-being, organizational climate, and advanced analytical strategy. With nearly a decade of experience conducting field-based and institutional research within the Canadian Armed Forces, I've authored more than 60 reports, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations—translating complex data into actionable insights for military stakeholders and civilian researchers. I'm a trusted collaborator on high-profile projects (e.g., Climate & Well-Being Pulse Survey, Unit Morale & Climate Assessment Survey, Canadian Military Colleges Graduates’ Experience Survey), and have helped pioneer automated R-based analytics pipelines for survey diagnostics and reporting. Passionate about mentorship and evidence-informed leadership, I enjoy blending academic rigor with practical impact, contributing to Canada’s evolving defense psychology landscape while empowering the next generation of researchers and passionate learners.

First, and most importantly, I believe that math and statistics should be fun. Just like solving a puzzle, solving for x should be accompanied by a sense of accomplishment and awe. These subjects are more than the sum (pun totally intended!) of their parts: they're an art--a language, and a challenge worth pursuing.
Ergo, my first interaction with a student is engaging, warm, and positive. I carefully listen to everyone's individual needs and wants, their end-goal(s), and everything in between. Content for each student is customized in a scenario-like fashion to make the material memorable, beginning with foundations and intermediate steps in complexity, all the way to advanced scenarios that tie all previous lessons together.
I primarily teach at the university level (i.e., first- and second-year statistics courses in the social sciences), but also love assisting young adults revisit their unknown passion for math (e.g., arithmetic, algebra, and quantitative reasoning more generally). These include individuals preparing for placement exams, the IMSA, and much more!

Matthew is the most incredible tutor! He is always encouraging and supportive. He took the time to ensure I knew the materials for my exams and helped me develop a cheat sheet. I couldn’t recommend him enough! :)
AMAZING TUTOR! He goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the content!! In my experience we focused on FUN practice problems by going step by step, making sure I understood how to do them and why we are doing these steps! He worked around my syllabus to make sure I stay on track and so he could answer any questions I had! I definitely felt more confident in my Statistics class after I had Matt. As someone who has struggled with math my whole life, Matt made leaning math fun and engaging! He is an excellent teacher and I HIGHLY recommend him!
Matthew is an amazing educator/mentor! He is my tutor for statistical analysis, my honours class at Carleton university. I went from barely understanding the basics to being able to complete almost any question on my own. If it wasn’t for him my confidence wouldn’t be where it is at now. He provides tailored work to your needs and walks you through everything step by step. He truly cares about educating others.
