About Jim
I've dedicated my career to helping photographers achieve success, drawing on my own journey through the highs and lows of running a portrait photography business for over 2 decades. This journey not only honed my skills but taught me the invaluable lessons of resilience, strategic foresight, and the critical alignment of business practices with one's vision for their ideal life.
With a foundation rooted in both experience and photography education, my passion has led me to deeply engage with our community. I've directly worked with hundreds of photographers, vastly expanding my understanding of the common challenges and unique struggles we face in this profession. This engagement has fueled my development of over 200 classes and the education of more than 4,000 students. I've hosted numerous events, managed vibrant online forums and groups, and provided upwards of 1,000 free education sessions. My mission extends beyond instruction; it's about imparting the wisdom I've gained through years of real-world experience in a manner that's both authentic and impactful.
My commitment to enriching the photography community is why I host a free one-hour lesson on the business side of photography every week through the "Portrait Profits" show. It's more than guidance; it's about uplifting our community with knowledge, inspiration, and the tools needed for success.

I teach photography classes as well as the business side of portrait and event photography, my students not only understand the concepts but also know how to apply them in real-world scenarios.
I begin by introducing fundamental concepts to provide a solid foundation for understanding photography. Following the introduction, I incorporate hands-on projects. This approach helps to solidify the concepts through practical experience.
Review and Feedback Sessions: Students get an opportunity to present their work, receive feedback, and engage in discussions.
Real-world Case Studies: I use case studies from successful photography businesses to illustrate the application of business principles in the photography industry. This helps students see the real-world impact of the concepts they're learning.
Q&A and Open Discussion: Students may address any uncertainties or challenges they're facing. This open dialogue ensures that all students leave the lesson with a clear understanding of the material covered.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my focus on the intersection of creativity and business acumen in the portrait photography industry. I emphasize the importance of both artistic skill and business savvy, and how the two can complement each other to create a successful photography business that is a tool to help you reach your ideal life.
