About Amaya

I'm Amaya, a designer, researcher and editor working at the intersection of strategic design, political ecology, biocentric practice and sustainability transitions. My Master's thesis at the Royal Danish Academy and Copenhagen Business School examined communication and membership in community-based ecological organizations, and my current research develops governance-oriented frameworks for sustainability transitions, the subject of my forthcoming paper at the Transition Design Conference 2026.
Alongside my own research, I supervise and support other students' work. I currently externally supervise a Master's thesis at Politecnico di Torino on a weekly basis, and I've worked pedagogically with MA and BA students through the Chair for Biohybrid Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy. I'm also Lead Editor on an upcoming journal issue, which means I spend a lot of my working week doing the kind of structural and line-level editing that thesis writing actually demands.
What I bring to this work is a careful eye for argument, a real tolerance for conceptual ambiguity, and a commitment to students owning their own thinking rather than borrowing mine.

MY APPROACH: This is research-writing coaching, not ghostwriting. I help you clarify what you're actually arguing, structure the argument so it holds, and refine the writing so it communicates precisely. We work directly on your draft (i.e.: your proposal, a chapter, a literature review, a theoretical framework, a methodology section, a conclusion) and use it as the site for strengthening the underlying skills: framing a research question, positioning your work in a field, handling sources, writing in an academic register, and defending choices in viva or jury.

A TYPICAL LESSON: We usually start by reviewing where you are in the thesis and what's blocking progress. From there, the session might focus on reframing your research question, mapping your argument, editing a passage line by line, working through a methodological question, preparing for a supervision meeting, or rehearsing for a viva or defence. Between sessions I'll often suggest targeted writing, reading, or restructuring work to keep momentum.

WHAT SETS ME APART: I work as a researcher, editor and external thesis supervisor in parallel, and I've chosen to specialise in work at the intersection of design, ecology and society: strategic design, sustainability transitions, political ecology, biocentric and multispecies design, social and participatory design, and related fields. I'm comfortable with interdisciplinary projects that don't fit neatly into a single methodology, and with students who are trying to think something genuinely new rather than produce a conventional thesis.

WHO IS THIS FOR: Master's students and advanced BA students writing theses, dissertations, research papers, or academic articles in strategic design, sustainability, ecological and environmental studies, political ecology, social and participatory design, biocentric and multispecies design, science and technology studies, and related interdisciplinary fields. Also suitable for students whose institutional supervisor is supportive but not specialised in their particular subject, and who want additional coaching between supervision meetings. Sessions in English or Spanish (both native). The first session is free so we can look at your work together and decide if it's a good fit.
