About Natasja

I am an interior designer that has a degree in design, and a passion to teach others. I have always been in love with the English language. Reading was my favourite sport growing up, and is the only hobby that remained constant over the years.

My love for teaching, however, got developed during my time at college, and perfected during my time as a foreign exchange student in Belgium. I would regularly help out my fellow students by reminding them of due dates, essay and cover formats, as well as anything else our teacher wanted to tell our class (since I spent a lot of extra time in class and with the teacher).

During my school years I had English as a first language, and with my reading skills, my punctuation and spelling were better than your average high-school student.

As a foreign exchange student, I had to take a Survival Dutch class, which I found easy since my home language is Afrikaans (similar to Dutch), so I decided to make the class more challenging by helping out other students that really struggle with the language.

When I came back to South Africa, I was so inspired to help students achieve their goals and dreams, I did a TEFL Level 5 240 hour online course to get to inspire students from all over the world. (Coursework included Teaching the English Language, Lesson Planning, and Teaching One-to-One and Online.)

About the lesson

My teaching techniques are based on and tailored to the individual student and their needs. I believe every student is different in their way of learning and obtaining information, and I like to work closely with the student to identify how I can make my lessons more relevant and enjoyable for them.

I will ask the student about their hobbies and lifestyle to get an idea of their personality and how they will be in the classroom, then I will ask them what their goals are and why they want to study English, and finally I will ask them how they want their lessons to be, and how they prefer to learn.

Based on the answers the students give for these questions, I will develop a lesson plan and structure with a lot of practical applications to the language (whether it be reading, writing, listening or speaking), as well as suggest some fun activities to the student that they can do outside of class.
