About William
I’m a British photographer and writer currently based in the United States, where I’m a graduate student at Yale. I also hold degrees from Oxford and the Royal College of Art, where I received my MA in photography, and where I was a student of the influential Swiss photographer Olivier Richon.
I'm passionate about the arts, particularly literature, photography, and painting and drawing, but the principles I teach when it comes to developing a creative practice are applicable to any discipline.
I'm back from the US and will be in and around St Albans for the summer months, which means I can take on a limited number of students again.

Not only can it be difficult to find the time to be creative, but so often we create barriers that prevent us from taking action. Many of us find that we suffer from limiting beliefs or impostor syndrome when we try to be creative or make artistic work. The voice of our inner critic sounds loudly. The good news is that none of this should come as a surprise to us and together we can develop strategies to overcome these feelings. Many of us spend most of our lives and educations being told that creativity and the arts are of only secondary importance.
We will work together to build a sustainable and fulfilling creative practice that works for you. This means taking into account how much time you have, creating new ways of thinking about art-making and its importance for your wellbeing and mental health, and overcoming old beliefs about your own ability.
Forming habits and a consistent daily practice is good, but sometimes we just need to give ourselves permission to start something without too much pressure, and to allow ourselves to do something, rather than nothing, making the most of whatever spare time we have in our busy lives.
Although we certainly can talk about medium-specific practicalities and assess the direction of your work and any projects you are currently working on or want to plan, the focus of these sessions will be on developing the mindset, confidence, and self-belief necessary to make creativity a key part of your life.
