About Steph

Hi! I'm Steph! I'm a British-born Australian who has worked in the public, private and non-profit sectors for 20+ years. I'm half Malay-Chinese (sorry, no Cantonese - mom didn't teach us!) and I am JLPT N3 Certified in Japanese (studying towards N2!).

Since I was little, it was clear my main superpower is English! I love reading, writing and talking so much that I took a linguistics degree at university. Later I became a consultant, where I presented to all sorts of people on all sorts of topics, from teaching design to the Singapore Ministry of Defence to facilitating board meetings for the Australian government, and advising the New Zealand Customs Service on airport design.

I'm also a prolific report writer, tender writer, speaker, coach and design teacher! I love helping other people achieve their career and personal goals. If I'm not the right fit for you, I'll do what I can too help you find someone.

About the lesson

I'm a consultant with over 20 years of delivering successful training, workshops and projects across the Asia-Pacific and beyond. This includes 4 years of in-person and online classes for international adult education campus General Assembly. I've also written business strategies, reports, tenders, pitches and numerous other documents in my time.

I'm a double-degree qualified professional in sociolinguistics and computer science, with additional training in leadership, teaching, facilitation and mentoring. I have experience in personal and professional development, career development, and presenting for diverse audiences.

I teach adults (18+) who already have some everyday English and want pragmatic skills in business / corporate English, resume and interview preparation, presentations and pitching, and improving speaking and writing.

I like to meet my students where they are. I take a tailored, realistic approach that is collaborative and focusses on what is most important to you. I teach clear, effective English that supports you to achieve your goals.

A typical lesson is 60 minutes, with 30 minutes of more structured learning and challenges, and 30 minutes of more informal interaction led by you (for example, questions you have, things you want to understand better, things you enjoy, and so on).

However, we'll work together to design the perfect lesson format for you so feel free to tell me what you prefer.
