Philosophy: I treat students as people first. This is the key to my success in online education, where engagement is everything. I build a trusting, fun relationship with each of my students, so that they look forward to each tutoring session. I also take great care in learning my students' individual learning styles to create a perfectly customized educational experience for each and every one of them. My commitment is to help students discover their strengths and use them to succeed in life. My demonstration of that commitment in every lesson is one of my students' greatest sources of motivation. My students know that I'm on their side during these crazy, stressful times.

About the lesson

My students can expect a lot of fun and games, especially in their first lesson. Even the shyest of students have come right out of their shells after some Pictionary, ISpy, or Connect Four! I bookend each of my lessons with games to motivate hard work and inspire creativity.

Once I have built some rapport with my students, I assess their reading level. This usually takes 1-2 lessons. I introduce colorful leveled readings for them to read aloud based on their current grade and adjust according to their performance. The goal is to find a level at which they can read about 80%-90% independently--the perfect range for instructional growth.

When I find the ideal level for my student, I progressively increase the reading level based on the student's progress. This way, my student's progress is always maximized. Due to my rigorous programming, several of my students have increased their performance by an entire grade level within 6-8 weeks of tutoring.

Of course, we focus on writing just as much as we do reading. Each of my tailored readings is accompanied with a variety of comprehension questions. I take advantage of the online format to develop the typing skills students need to succeed in this digital age.
