Florence taught me Cantonese, the lessons were structured -she was very adaptive to suit the pace of learning and topics of interest. With her teaching I was able to learn at a really good rate and enjoyed the classes. Organising classes was also easy and she was very responsive. I would very much recommend.

Florence is a very friendly, knowledgable and dedicated tutor. She understood quickly what level I was at and what I wanted to learn. We also learnt about culture as well as language. This was particularly important to me as I wanted an understanding of how cantonese is spoken differently in Malaysia and HK, which Florence was skilled at teaching. She was able to design lessons that suited my learning style and I always found them fun and challenging. The only reason I don’t take lessons now is due to time constraints. I hope to learn with her again in the future. I highly recommend her for anyone wanting to learn this beautiful language.

I have been taking Chinese Calligraphy lessons with Florence for over a year now (both in person & online) - what seemed like such a huge and daunting topic, Flo made comfortable and fun. I currently have regular Cantonese lessons with Flo and have done so for around 5 years. Flo has always been able to plan and provide a good variety of lessons (speaking, listening etc) to meet my needs and has allowed me to develop at my own pace. I am now able to understand and have basic conversations in Cantonese with my wife’s family and also did part of my wedding speech in Cantonese with her help. Flo is also very friendly and easy to get along with which is also a great bonus when trying to learn something new and would definitely recommend her if looking for a tutor!!

Learning Chinese Calligraphy online with Florence Lee has been a marvellous experience. I first started Mandarin Chinese language and culture with Florence in 2020-21 and am excited to have been doing her Chinese Calligraphy with Mythology courses from 2023 onwards.
Florence prepares the lessons so thoroughly, she gives you a lot of .pdf materials and links to learning aids. All this forms a rich background to her classes.
The lessons themselves work well using a system of each person using their laptop screen for their faces, and their mobile screen set up to film their hands using the Calligraphy brushes. We hold up our completed work in turn so we can all see what each person has done.
Florence is a very lively and encouraging teacher. She instils confidence in you because she is always positive on her feedback. She has a method of teaching each new Calligraphy character in several stages - giving first an overview, then showing you the brush stroke order, helping you to trace the character with your fingers, then monitoring you filling in the details on practice sheets with squares and diagonal lines where you ink over the top of existing characters, and finally doing them freehand on blank sheets.
Her way of teaching the Chinese Mythology is also good - first by telling you the story, then showing you an animated video, then questioning the class on what they can remember.
She is greatly knowledgeable about reasonably priced sources for materials and artefacts such as stone seals, seal paste, paper, inks and banners. I had a stone seal hand-carved using a Chinese Calligraphy character to represent my name. Florence helps you to do everything in this strange and exciting new world!
She is so enthusiastic, it really inspires you.
