Doc's Science Tutoring & Test Prep - NE Oklahoma & NW Arkansas

Methodology

Hello science learners! I have a doctorate in science education and master's degrees in teaching and biology. I have taught science to third grade students all the way up to the university level. I believe it is important to present to students a variety of teaching approaches to learn and reinforce concepts. However, the teaching approach I utilize most often is the learning cycle, wherein students actively construct their knowledge by making sense of their observations to form concepts. They then organize these newly-learned concepts amongst those learned previously. Learning cycles require hands-on, experiential activities which are never boring and foster creativity and true understanding.

Background

I have taught thousands of students at all levels over a 25 year career in education including Honors, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement courses. My students often go on to be successful at university and enter rewarding careers. Some of my students have become aerospace engineers, cardiovascular surgeons, and college professors. I was awarded the Oklahoma Science Teacher Association's Middle Level State Science Teacher of the Year honor in 2014. Last year some of my students were invited to the White House Science Fair, and I have several publications to my name.
