About Dr Umar

I’m an NHS doctor with over 8 years of tutoring experience, and I’m also involved in university medical education. My background in both medicine and teaching has given me a strong understanding of how students learn best, how to break down difficult concepts and how to build confidence before exams.

I have experience teaching students at different academic levels, from GCSE and A-Level through to university and medical school. I’m used to explaining complex topics clearly, adapting my teaching style to the individual student and helping students identify exactly where they are losing marks.

My approach is friendly, structured and encouraging, but also focused on results. I want students to leave each session feeling that the topic finally makes sense and knowing exactly how to apply what they have learnt in an exam.

Alongside tutoring, I work within the NHS and contribute to medical education and student teaching, so I bring both strong academic experience and a practical, professional approach to every lesson.

About the lesson

My lessons are structured, supportive and focused on helping students make clear progress. I tailor each session to the student’s current level, exam board, weaker topics and target grade.

Rather than simply going through textbook content, I focus on building a strong understanding of the topic, then applying it through exam-style questions and past papers. I also teach students how to recognise what a question is really asking, how to structure their answers and how to pick up marks efficiently.

Sessions can include topic teaching, exam technique, past-paper practice, revision planning, identifying knowledge gaps and targeted support in difficult areas. I aim to make challenging topics feel simpler and more manageable while building confidence over time.

Whether a student is trying to catch up, move up a grade boundary or aim for top GCSE or A-Level grades, lessons are adapted around their individual goals and progress.
