About Zoe
I am an astrophysicist and have researched distant galaxies for 5+ years, using space telescopes to understand how the Universe, Earth, and humans came to be. I completed my PhD in astrophysics this year at Durham University, and I earned my Bachelor's degree in physics at the University of Southampton and my Master's in Astrophysics, including a year abroad at Harvard University in the USA.
I have a tremendous amount of experience in teaching and learning roles; I've been a tutor to students aged 10 to 14 since I was 16, been an Institute of Physics tutor for A-Level physics students, been a teaching assistant in Durham undergraduate physics classes, marked and given feedback on undergraduate exams, plus I love more interactive and volunteering teaching, where I've been a planetarium team leader, given space tours to Scout groups and primary schools, given science classes to SEND students and schools, and brought space-themed exhibits to community centres and science events.
I am also dyslexic, and so if you are too, or want support with your learning difficulties, I am very happy to discuss this.
I believe that anyone can be a scientist! All it takes is curiosity and a little creativity. I love to show how the maths you learn in school applies to the real world and to space!

The lessons are entirely designed to address the areas that are most challenging for you. We will build a deeper understanding of the topic through interactive, problem-solving questions. An hour-long lesson would have a structure similar to that listed below:
- Briefly review homework/coursework or recent tests to identify where you may be dropping marks.
- A detailed deep-dive into the topic, using examples and real-life scenarios to strengthen your knowledge.
- Build up to exam-style questions, followed by a review of the mark sheet to understand what the examiner is looking for.
- I will then provide a lesson summary and a recommended reading list, plus set a worksheet for us to discuss in the next lesson.
My aim is to help you build confidence in your most challenging topics, and adapt the session to what works best for you!
