About Archie
I have loved mathematics since the second grade. That lifelong passion led me to take both AP Calculus AB and BC simultaneously in high school, major in math in college, and ultimately earn my Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), alongside a B.A. from the University of San Diego (USD).
My mission as an educator is to move students away from rote memorization and toward genuine conceptual mastery. Using a Socratic, inquiry-based approach, I help students develop deep intuition for problem-solving so they can excel in advanced coursework and build lasting academic independence.
I bring decades of classroom and mentoring experience across top San Diego institutions. I currently teach AP Calculus AB at Southern California Yeshiva High School, with former faculty roles at San Diego Mesa College, SDSU, USD, and UCSD. My teaching background spans the entire mathematical pipeline—from foundational secondary tracks and Exeter problem-based curricula to multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and number theory.
Whether you are tackling AP Calculus, navigating rigorous honors problem sets, or preparing for university-level coursework, I provide high-level, personalized mentorship tailored to your academic goals.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY: THE SOCRATIC ADVANTAGE
My approach centers on Socratic mentoring and guided inquiry rather than passive lectures. Instead of telling you how to solve a problem step-by-step, I use targeted, open-ended questions that lead you to discover the underlying mathematical logic yourself. By keeping my explanations minimal and concise, I empower you to lead the problem-solving process. You don't just memorize formulas — you develop deep conceptual intuition and true academic independence.
WHAT A TYPICAL LESSON LOOKS LIKE
FIRST: CONCEPT CHECK AND GOAL SETTING (5-10 MINS)
We briefly review the core concepts, theorems, or homework questions you want to tackle, identifying any hidden gaps in foundational understanding.
NEXT: GUIDED SOCRATIC PROBLEM-SOLVING (35-45 MINS)
We work through challenging problems together using a digital whiteboard. I guide you with probing questions while you articulate the reasoning behind each step, building your confidence on high-level problems.
FINALLY: RECAP AND INDEPENDENT ACTION PLAN (5-10 MINS)
You summarize the key takeaways in your own words, ensuring the logic sticks. We outline clear next steps for your independent practice before our next meeting.
WHAT SETS MY LESSONS APART
With a Doctorate in Mathematics and over 25 years of tutoring alongside a decade of classroom teaching — from high school Advanced Placement Calculus to university-level courses at UCSD, SDSU, USD, and Mesa College — I understand the exact expectations of top-tier academic programs. Whether you are navigating Advanced Placement Calculus, Exeter-style problem sets, or advanced college math, I bridge the gap between secondary coursework and university-level rigor.
