About James
About Me as Your Martial Arts Instructor
Martial arts has been an integral part of my life since the age of four.
I began training as a young child and quickly discovered that many of the physical elements of martial arts came naturally to me. Flexibility, agility, balance, coordination, and body control have consistently been among my strongest attributes. To this day, I maintain a high level of flexibility and mobility and have remained capable of performing high kicks and athletic movements that often require years of dedicated development.
As I progressed through my training, I became one of the strongest students in my classes and continued developing my skills within the American Taekwondo Association (ATA), one of the largest and most established martial arts organizations in the United States.
I earned my 3rd-degree black belt at a very young age, approximately during the sixth or seventh grade, following years of rigorous training approximately three to four times per week. At that time, I was also among the youngest students in my organization to achieve that rank.
My training has extended beyond traditional Taekwondo. Throughout my martial arts journey, I have developed experience in and an appreciation for weapons training, boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and Extreme Martial Arts. These disciplines have enabled me to incorporate a broad range of movement, striking, coordination, athleticism, and martial arts principles into my training.
I am also a member of the Extreme Martial Arts Club and Black Belt Club within my martial arts organization. Participation in these programs has allowed me to continue developing skills beyond the fundamentals and to explore more advanced aspects of martial arts and athletic movement.
Inspired by the Greats
A significant part of what initially drew me to martial arts was seeing it brought to life through films and by some of the most recognizable martial artists and performers of all time.
Bruce Lee inspired me through his speed, precision, philosophy, and approach to developing both the body and mind.
Jackie Chan demonstrated another dimension of martial arts: the combination of technique, creativity, agility, coordination, athleticism, and exceptional physical control.
I was also inspired by martial arts legends and film icons such as Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, as well as by the many martial arts films that made these disciplines exciting and accessible to audiences around the world.
Those films did more than entertain me; they motivated me to learn and practice the movements myself.
Over time, what began as something I watched and admired became a discipline that I practiced, studied, and developed throughout my life.
A Unique Natural Ability
One aspect that has consistently distinguished my experience from that of the average beginner is that martial arts movement came naturally to me from a very young age.
I have always possessed an unusual combination of flexibility, agility, balance, stability, and coordination. High kicks and difficult movements were not abilities I had to force myself to acquire; they were skills toward which I naturally gravitated and continued refining through years of training.
That natural ability, combined with disciplined practice, provided me with the opportunity to become highly proficient in movement and body control.
My objective now is to apply that experience in service of my students within a fully personalized training environment.
Learning From Experienced Martial Artists
At a young age, while working toward and developing my 3rd-degree black belt, I also had the opportunity to be observed and evaluated by Mike Chat, who has been involved in Extreme Martial Arts and martial arts choreography and has contributed to major film projects.
His involvement in martial arts performance and film provided me with an additional perspective on how martial arts can be developed beyond traditional training and translated into high-level athletic and cinematic movement.
That experience became another meaningful component of my martial arts journey.
What I Bring to My Students
Having begun this journey at four years old, earned my 3rd-degree black belt at a young age, and continued exploring various areas of martial arts, I bring a lifetime of experience and enthusiasm to every private lesson.
I understand that every student has distinct goals and abilities.
Some individuals wish to learn martial arts from the ground up. Others seek to improve their kicks, flexibility, balance, coordination, fitness, combinations, or overall athletic movement. Some are primarily interested in developing the confidence and discipline associated with learning a martial art.
My role is to meet you at your current level and structure the training around your individual needs.
Because my lessons are conducted privately, I can focus on your specific technique, provide immediate corrections, adjust the pace of instruction, and progressively challenge you as you improve.
My objective is not simply to teach you movements. It is to help you develop greater control, confidence, athletic ability, and appreciation for the art of martial arts through a professional, personalized, white-glove training experience.

What Will Your Private Lesson Look Like?
Every private session is designed to provide a complete, personalized martial arts experience, beginning when I arrive at your home and concluding with the final cool-down.
You will not need to travel to a studio or gym. I will bring the equipment required for your session directly to your home and prepare the training area so that we can focus entirely on your instruction. You will receive my undivided attention throughout the lesson.
1. Personalized Preparation & Complimentary Stretching
We will begin with complimentary stretching and mobility exercises to prepare your body for the movements involved in the session.
We will perform controlled stretches and mobility exercises designed to promote comfortable movement, improve range of motion, and prepare your muscles and joints for martial arts activities.
I will also monitor your positioning and technique during the preparation phase to ensure that your body is moving properly before we begin more demanding exercises.
2. Movement & Technique Drills
Once you are properly warmed up, we will transition into introductory movement drills.
These may include footwork, stance, balance, coordination, agility, defensive movement, and controlled body movement.
The purpose of these drills is to help you become comfortable moving intentionally before we begin combining individual techniques.
3. The Main Martial Arts Lesson
This portion of the session will focus on the primary objective for the day.
Depending on your experience and goals, we may work on:
* Punching and kicking fundamentals
* Proper stance and body positioning
* Hand and foot combinations
* Kicking combinations
* Footwork and movement
* Speed and reaction drills
* Balance and coordination
* Pad and target work
* Blocking and defensive movements
* Flexibility and high-kick development
* Agility and athletic movement
* Technique refinement
* Conditioning and martial arts fitness
* More advanced combinations as your skill develops
Rather than simply having you repeat techniques, I will break each movement down, demonstrate it, observe your execution, and provide corrections throughout the session.
We will then begin combining individual techniques into controlled combinations.
For example, a session may progress from learning an individual punch or kick, to incorporating footwork, to combining multiple techniques, and eventually performing the combination with greater speed, control, accuracy, and fluidity.
4. Personalized Skill Drills
After the primary lesson, we will use focused drills to reinforce the skills you have learned.
These drills allow us to address areas requiring additional attention, including balance, flexibility, speed, coordination, technique, reaction time, or simply becoming more comfortable with the movement.
Because the training is conducted one-on-one, I can immediately adjust each drill according to your performance rather than requiring you to follow the same routine as other students.
5. Conditioning & Athletic Development
When appropriate for your goals, we can incorporate martial arts-based conditioning and athletic exercises.
These may include agility work, controlled bodyweight movements, balance exercises, mobility work, resistance training, and other exercises designed to complement your martial arts development.
The intensity can be adjusted according to your experience and fitness level.
6. Cool-Down
We will conclude the session by gradually reducing the intensity through controlled stretching, mobility exercises, and recovery-focused movements.
This provides an opportunity to reinforce flexibility and range of motion while allowing your body to transition safely from the more demanding portion of the workout.
A Curriculum Built Around Your Progress
My lessons follow a structured curriculum developed through years of martial arts training and experience.
Rather than selecting exercises at random from one session to the next, I use a progressive approach. Skills and techniques may be introduced, practiced, refined, combined, and advanced as you become more comfortable with them.
The specific content of each lesson will depend on your goals, experience, physical ability, and progress.
Whether you are completely new to martial arts or already have experience, the objective remains the same: to provide you with a challenging, professional, and personalized training experience that enables you to improve continuously.
The White-Glove Difference
The entire experience takes place in the comfort and privacy of your own home.
I will arrive prepared, bring the necessary equipment, set up your training area, provide complimentary preparation and stretching, personally coach you through every exercise, make corrections throughout the lesson, and conclude with a proper cool-down.
There is no crowded class, no waiting for equipment, and no need to share an instructor’s attention with multiple students.
This is your session, your goals, and your pace—with my full attention.
