About Sonny

Native Austinite now living half the year in Colorado for the skiing.

When I’m not on the slopes at Beaver Creek or Vail, you’ll likely find me out on the trails with my own dog — or helping other dogs and their humans build better relationships.

People hire me for dog training because I bring the same patience, clear communication, and systematic approach I use when teaching complex data center architecture or quantum computing concepts.

Training a dog isn’t magic — it’s about understanding how dogs think, teaching clear signals, and giving owners practical tools that actually work in real life.

I use positive, reward-based methods that are fun for both dogs and people. Whether you have a bouncing puppy that needs foundations, a dog with annoying habits (jumping, pulling, barking), or you just want a reliable, well-mannered companion you can take anywhere, I’ll create a personalized plan that fits your lifestyle and your dog’s personality.

Bonus: Lessons can happen on the trail, at the park, or even combined with a short hike. I’m happy to talk physics on the chairlift one day and dog body language the next.

About the lesson

Hey there! I’m a patient, experienced dog trainer who loves helping dogs and their humans build a strong, happy relationship.

Whether you have a new puppy that’s chewing everything in sight, a young dog that won’t listen, or an adult dog that needs better manners or advanced skills, I can help.

My approach is positive, reward-based, and science-backed. I focus on clear communication, consistency, and making training enjoyable for both you and your dog. No harsh methods — just results that last.
What we can work on together:
- Puppy basics (house training, crate training, socialization)
- Obedience commands (sit, stay, come, heel, leave it, etc.)
- Leash manners and loose-leash walking
- Behavior issues (jumping, barking, digging, separation anxiety)
- Advanced tricks and fun skills
Canine good citizen / therapy dog prep
+ Customized training for your specific goals

Lessons are hands-on and can be done at your home, a local park, or even combined with a fun walk/hike. I’m also happy to include tips on nutrition, enrichment, and understanding your dog’s body language.

I bring the same patience and clear explanations I use when teaching complex tech topics — because training dogs is really about teaching people how to communicate with their dogs.
Located in the Denver / Colorado area & Austin TX (and happy to do virtual consults too).

Flexible scheduling.

Hourly rate: $50 / hour (same as my tech lessons — great value for personalized, one-on-one training)

Perfect! One of his biggest strengths is how calm and patient he is, especially with high-energy breeds like Belgian Malinois. I only had one lesson with him so far, but he immediately understood my puppy’s behavior and gave me practical techniques that actually started helping right away.
