About Sam

Hello! I'm Sam, a political science and finance student at the University of Notre Dame. In over 7 years of tutoring, I've worked with hundreds of students in AP US, World, and European history, both US and Comparative Government and Politics, and AP Human Geography. For as long as I can remember, I've been passionate about history and the humanities, and I relish the opportunity to help a student love it as I do.

My students' AP scores and class grades are consistently the best on SuperProf, and giving students the gold standard of support is my main priority.

If you're looking for guaranteed grade improvement and AP success, you've found it.

In the 2025 testing cycle, 100% of my 28 students across all platforms scored 5/5 on their AP history exams. My college application clients have earned places at Ivy League universities. Your student can be one of them.

As the president of Notre Dame's renowned debate program, I bring a unique perspective to learning. Competitive academic fellowships at ND have given me a unique perspective in guiding students to academic success. My personalized approach focuses on thorough analysis and detailed argumentation, ensuring you excel both in the classroom and on the AP exam.

My qualifications include:
- University of Notre Dame academic fellowships
- 2022, 2023, and 2024 Tutor of the Year in History
- President of Speech and Debate for the University of Notre Dame
- Internships with the U.S. Congress and private equity
- AP Scholar with Distinction
- 2021 UIL "Best of Texas" State Champion in Social Studies
- Eagle Scout w/ palms
- 5/5 AP U.S. History, AP World History, and AP European History

 - Study and learning skills honed by an education at one of America's finest elite research universities.

 - A successful AP student's valuable point of view on the AP process, an approach that has helped hundreds of students get 5's.

 - Detailed feedback on writing and essays tailored to what AP graders want.

 - Experience in working with students both who have recently immigrated to the US, and students with special learning needs.

 - 24/7 call and text response availability at all times.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I took an interest in history early in middle school, being able to analyze past events is a key skill to accurately understand the world around you.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in AP histories. They take advantage of both vast content knowledge and specialized writing styles. I enjoy getting to help students improve in both of these areas of the AP history exams.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My 10th grade AP US History teacher, Ms. Peveto, was a huge influence on me. That year was the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic. She took extra attention to the class, and I as a student felt very appreciated. It's something that motivates me to best serve my clients.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor has to be responsive, being able to notice and adapt to a student's changing needs.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I remember one of my first clients, his family had just moved to the US from Sri Lanka. He hadn't ever taken a US history class before, so being thrust into the class his freshman year of high school was a major change for him. His mother reached out to me and we started lessons. We grew very close, and he finished the class with an A. Years later, he just enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania, to major in history.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Early on in tutoring, I had a hard time adjusting my AP curriculum to teach on-level courses. The materials I was using were very advanced. What I ended up doing was rewriting the materials myself, adapting to the experiences of my students instead of relying on someone else's work.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Improvement. I am extremely passionate about being able to work with a student and see them visibly improve, both with their grades and with their confidence in their own abilities.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

Dedication. genuinely care about how my students are doing, something that keeps me invested in their progress.
