About Steve

I have been writing, touring and remixing as the artist 'Lynx' in the genre of Drum and Bass music for the last 17 years. With over 50 singles and 3 albums under my belt I am known as an accomplished and fearless musician, one that pushed the boundaries of the genre. I am a musician who's not afraid to break the paradigm. My diverse musical past has ensured I have mastered a sound, which crosses over from the dancefloor and way into the deeper end of musical composition. I have worked with all the biggest labels in dnb music. From my debut award-nominated album, with Mc Kemo, ‘The Raw Truth’, on the seminal label Soul:R - which was hailed by Mixmag as, ‘the saviour of drum and bass music'. To my biggest hit "Disco Dodo' on Fabio's (BBC Radio 1) Creative Source imprint. My 3rd album was released on Hospital Records, where many of the tracks appeared on video games such as Gran Turismo & Need For Speed. I have also worked for labels such as Ram, Metalheadz, Digital Soundboy, MTA Souped Up, Playaz & my own label Detail Recordings. I’m very fortunate that my music has taken me around the globe as a touring DJ, playing clubs and festivals across the UK, Europe, Asia, USA, Australia & New Zealand.

About the lesson

• I'm a laid-back and patient teacher who has worked with many music producers of all abilities over the years. • I take great pride in helping musicians on their journey into music creation, helping to build confidence to be themselves and find their own sound. • I worked in a commercial studio prior to becoming an artist myself. So I have a good understanding of both technical aspects of music production and the journey of becoming an artist. • I'm versatile in approach, taking a back step if students feel they have specific needs, or can be proactive in building a music production plan. • I have a Master of Arts in Audio Technology from London College of Music. • I specialise in working with Cubase but also have good knowledge in Ableton & Logic. • My knowledge as an artist means I can teach the following to a professional standard: Drum Programming Synthesis Sampling Songwriting Arrangement Editing EQ Compression/Limiting VST Plugins Mastering Music Theory Music Business I have a wealth of experience in the industry should students need help with areas of music business. When you join up for lessons you will receive a bundle of my own samples to help you with your music productions.

I've been working Steve in the studio for a few years now and as you can imagine a lot of that time is Steve teaching me how to do things 'the better way'. What really stands out about his approach to teaching is that he just has this way of simplifying everything and making it fun and easy to understand. He is very patient, supportive, and encouraging. He always gives me constructive feedback and tips on how to improve my own sound quality, creativity, and of course originality and funk, which is very important to him. I would highly recommend anyone who is serious about honing their tune writing, production and mastering skills, you will get way more value than you can imagine.
