About Chris
My name is Chris Johnston, I am a drummer with over 20 years of experience. I welcome students of all skill levels and ages, with interests in any genre of music. I specialize in rock, jazz and technical drumming but love to help students interested in all genres and forms of music. My style of teaching is engaging and fun; it starts with first learning the fundamentals of rhythm and how to hold a beat with confidence, and then turns into an exciting game of discovering what’s beyond the beat. I aim to give every student the ability to add their own personality to their playing in as many ways as possible and I’ve developed my own curriculum that I believe is unique to me. I use games to keep students interested and excited to get to the next step of the course! I also leave room for the student to contribute to the direction of the lesson by listening to any ideas, questions, or goals they might want to give more attention to. I started learning drums in a professional school setting at the tender age of 6, and have kept on for the next 22 years. Throughout my teenage years, I was the head drummer for various stage productions and started taking a heavy interest in the foundations of songwriting. I have since had over 15 years of experience with playing the guitar, bass and writing my own musical compositions. I have played professionally with multiple bands, performed at many live events and currently excel as a solo performer. I’ve released some full projects; my most recent is a full-length album that is heavily piano-centric, that I sang on in memory of my late mom. It’s out now on Spotify, iTunes and all streaming sites, I would love for you to give it a listen! I now have over two years of dedicated, full-time teaching experience under my belt and I can’t wait to expand and help even more people realize their true musical potential. I truly believe that my energy and passion translates into my teaching style – come to me if you want to be engaged and as excited as I am to learn how to be a better artist with your instrument! Perfect! Chris is an excellent teacher, the best we could have dreamed of. His positive energy and smile are contagious. He not only has skills, but also a wonderful approach to young people, which resulted that my child is quickly gaining skill in playing drums. If you think about drums, with Chris you will not only learn, but also have a lot of fun during the process! What can I say, he is simply the best!
