I've known Mike for almost 17 years. During that time, I worked with him as a guitarist, and when I began to teach music myself, I leaned on him for advice. Now I take drum lessons from Mike! Mike is not only a superb teacher and musician - he's a rare human being. Set aside the fact that he has played and studied with some of the finest musicians in the business and the world - a fact that he rarely brings up himself - Mike is one of the sweetest, kindest people I have ever known. He's considerate. He's thoughtful. He has a great sense of humor. He's not an "in your face" guy - he knows how to listen. He intuitively knows how to read a student and how to approach teaching them, and prioritizes the student's needs over those of his own. He gives you just the right amount to work on so that you continue to be engaged and excited. If at times you feel discouraged because you're struggling with something (as we all do), Mike always knows how to talk you off the ledge, bring things down to earth, and find the solution. Mike makes it fun. He makes music a joy and learning a pleasure. I look forward every week to my lesson with Mike. It's always a great hang.

Mike has all of the tangible and intangible qualities of a great music teacher. While his resume and skill as a drummer and a teacher I can only describe as "superior", Mike himself is very humble and down-to-earth. He is engaging, encouraging and incredibly patient. His innate ability to find a way through my individual idiosyncrasies and weaknesses to help me become a better drummer are remarkable. To be honest, if someone cannot improve and have fun in the process under Mike's tutelage , then maybe the drums (and fun) just aren't for them
