About Jessie

I am pursuing medicine and I strongly believe that I should understand people if I am going to treat people. Therefore, my undergraduate major was psychology where I took classes like Educational psych, Bio Bases of Behavior, Social psych, Abnormal psych, research courses, and even extracurricular topics like Exercise and Mental Health, Personality, and Music as Biology.

All of these classes accumulate to a wide and deep understanding of many facets of psychology and how they relate to our daily lives, and more importantly, how students can capitalize on these psychology secrets. Each of these classes came with their own specific application of psychology that can be used to engineer healthy practices and better study techniques in ourselves. Traditional classrooms don't teach students how to study, and that onus of retaining information is left up to the student. But with what I teach, the student is able to learn that skill of how to learn and memorize, and can applying for all future pursuits, whether it be academic, performative, or more!

About the lesson

I have extensive experience teaching students effective study techniques that are not taught in a traditional classroom setting, the neuroscience tips and tricks for memorizing things effectively, and the many wellness ways we can use psychology to engineer things in ourselves (such as stress management, overcoming procrastination, and building healthy habits).

I have a B.A. in psychology at Duke, and while on campus, I worked in the Identity and Diversity psych lab, wrote several independent studies researching topics like the effect of exercise on mental health, effects of chronic stress on the body, and coping strategies for mental health.

I would be prepared to help students not only understand psychology and neuroscience as topics in school, but I would also be able to help them holistically as students where they can use these study strategies in every course in their academic career. For these wholistic topics, I have prepared lecture material that explains the neuroscience behind study techniques, and related concepts in such a way that no previous background in psychology is required to understand the material. I am able to break down complex topics into simple terms, and will help students cultivate the skills, daily practices, and psychological applications that would help them achieve the best version of a student they can be!
