About Carrie

I am passionate about reading and writing, and believe it can be made accessible for every student by thinking creatively and adapting to their needs. When I am not focusing on academic work, I like to write poetry, sing, sew my own clothes and cook.

About the lesson

I have over 4 years of experience tutoring English Language and Literature at GCSE and A-Level across a multitude of texts and exam boards, and have additional experience proofing undergraduate essay work. I have over 40 five star reviews on the platform MyTutor, and am considered to be a professional and supportive presence in the classroom. At undergraduate I achieved a first from Durham University, and my passion for the subject is evidenced by my continued study at Bristol University for an MA in English Literature.

I offer a free 15 minute consultation by phone or video call so you can see if I am right for you. I am methodical yet flexible in my approach and can adapt my lesson to appropriately fit students. I first ask students to bring a past essay for me to get a sense of their writing, and have an initial discussion about what they are struggling with. I prefer to start with working through the mark scheme and explaining how students are marked so they understand what they need to do to improve, and I then focus on teaching skills such as critical thinking and close analysis. Many of my lessons, particularly later in the process, have an element of essay writing and feedback to them so that students can improve their work through practise. I always write a lesson report to keep parents in the loop.

I am able to travel within Bristol for in-person work, or I can conduct lessons online after an upfront payment in a method that suits you.
