About Elliott

I am a Bachelor of Art's Student at Durham University, currently studying Archaeology and Ancient History. Prior to this, I have studied History and associated subjects such as Religious Studies and English Literature through from GCSE to A-Level study levels.

I have a broad ranging expertise with regards to the study of History and Religious Studies. My historical knowledge stretches from Ancient, to Medieval, to Early-Modern and Modern Histories. My particular focus and pleasure is the study of Ancient and Classical Histories (Which I am currently pursuing in my degree course), however in my past studies, I have studied the History of The Great War, World War Two and the American Civil Rights Movement at GCSE Level. At A-Level, I studied the History of The English Civil Wars, The Rise of the Spanish Empire from 1450 to 1600, and the conquests and death of Alexander the Great. In my personal free time, as a matter of leisure, I also have a keen interest in Napoleonic History, Medieval Europe and Asia, Colonial History in Africa and the Americas, and the History of the 19th and 20th centuries in Europe (Imperialism, World War One, World War Two and the Cold War).

My Religious Studies experience is also broad. I attended a Catholic Secondary School, wherein much of my studies focused on Catholicism, but also extended to the study of Protestantism as well as other modern religions such as Hinduism, Judaism and Islam. We also studied general philosophy and ethics, and how they related to Catholic teachings. At A-Level, I studied Islam in depth, as well as the philosophy of morality and ethics (With a particular focus on Classical Utilitarianism), as well as the arguments and apologetic for the existence of God/A Supreme Being. In my current studies at University, I often find myself studying Ancient Religions, such as Greco-Roman Paganism, Ancient Egyptian Paganism, and the spiritual beliefs of the Ancient Celts, Germanic Tribes and Mesopotamian Peoples. I also study the rise of early Christianity and Islam in relation to the Roman and Byzantine Empires. In my free-time, I have studied and explored the beliefs of many religions ranging from Norse Paganism, to the three main strains of Buddhism, to the Japanese religion of Shinto.

About the lesson

I offer relaxed lessons ranging anywhere from one to three hours in length, but am happy to arrange longer lessons as required by my students. I work with my students to ensure they're comfortable with the student material and understand with the work they are being presented by their college/school, but I always try to push my students to exceed their own expectations of themselves and tackle areas of the subject where they find difficulty. I am happy to invite interaction with students parents/guardians, ranging from involvement in the lessons to regular updates on the students progress with the subject matter.

I am a student myself, and not long ago was a student of the subjects I tutor, and so I have first-hand experience with the subject matter, and can empathise to no end with the students I am tutoring, which always translates into my teaching methods. My job is to approach the subject in a manner the student can understand, rather than the often distant method of teaching one might receive directly from their class teachers.
