About David

My name is David, and I took Maths and Further Maths at GCSE, and Maths at A-Level. I currently study PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) at Durham University, and so have continued to study maths!

I spent 2 summers working at a Summer Camp in Canada where I learnt to love teaching and guiding younger people. More recently, I have been teaching at Code Kids Robotics, where I help students (though most are quite young) develop their own Roblox games, Minecraft Education Edition projects, and more.

I represent Durham as a competitive debater, am the Publicity Officer of the Durham Union Society, and hope to pursue a career in finance.

In my experience, both from teaching and from when I was studying at a pre-university level, Maths is best taught through supported past-paper practice.

Maths is not as cumulative as some other subjects: in History you need to start at the beginning of the course and build up, but in Maths you are able to quickly pass what is well understood to focus on more difficult areas. Past-papers cover the entire curriculum and are great for finding areas where students struggle. Past-paper practice also helps students become more comfortable with the format of exams - I was far less daunted by my exams when I knew how the questions would be asked!
