About Caroline
I am a second year Classical Civilisation student at the University of Durham. I can provide general help, such as working on essay writing and coherence, proofreading essays and improving writing style. As well as this, I can help with analysis on a deeper level on a range of texts, both ancient and modern. These include texts by Euripides, Sophocles, Homer and Virgil, as well as modern works studied at A Level English Literature, including 'The Handmaid's Tale,' 'Frankenstein,' 'A Streetcar Named Desire,' 'Othello,' and poetry by John Keats/ modern poetry. I completed my A-Levels with A* in English Literature, and A's in Classical Civilisation and Psychology in 2018. I can also provide advice with exam technique and Russell group university applications.

I like to tailor my classes to each individual, forming first an understanding of which aspects of the subject the individual is most struggling with in order to help shape their weaknesses into strengths they can utilize when taking exams. I often set students tasks which I then look over before our next session, so that I can bring feedback and constructive criticism to their next class. I believe that listening to my students and their concerns is the most important aspect of teaching and improving; and that lessons should always be tailored towards applying skills learnt for exams, and learning to see critically the best way to approach papers so as to achieve the highest grades.
I can help you feel more confident when studying poetry, guiding you to identify the key aspects to focus on and look out for when approaching poetic works. This is also the case with literary texts, where themes, context and devices can easily be learnt and applied to a wide range of essay questions.
I believe that the best preparation in the run up for English exams is essay practice, and am willing to mark mock exams in order for my students to become more confident with timing and learning to respond and react to essay questions in exam conditions.
However, I am flexible, and can adapt easily to different teaching methods- what is most important for me is that the student feels comfortable and capable of improving!
