Hello! I am a Primary/Junior Ontario Certified Teacher dedicated to making learning an adventure rather than a chore. My journey to the classroom was unique—teaching is my second career, a choice I made because I realized that helping young minds grow isn't just what I do; it’s who I am.

A Passionate Path to Teaching

I transitioned into education because I discovered a profound passion for witnessing the "aha!" moment when a complex concept suddenly clicks for a child. Because I chose this path later in life, I bring a wealth of real-world experience, maturity, and a genuine enthusiasm to every lesson. I don't just teach because it's my job; I teach because I believe every student has an infinite ability to succeed when given the right tools.

My Philosophy: Learning by Doing

I believe that children learn best when they aren't just listening, but doing. My philosophy is rooted in experiential learning. Instead of just memorizing facts from a textbook, I encourage students to interact with the Ontario curriculum through hands-on understanding. Whether we are exploring math through manipulatives or language through creative storytelling, I ensure the material is tangible, relevant, and engaging.

However, I also maintain a structured environment that fosters focus and respect. My mission goes beyond helping your child get a better grade on their next report card. I want to teach them how to learn. By building their confidence and giving them a solid academic foundation, I aim to empower them with the realization that their potential is truly limitless.

About the lesson

My Teaching Approach: Professional, Personalized, and Proven

As an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) specializing in the Primary/Junior divisions (Kindergarten to Grade 6), I bring the high standards of the Ontario Ministry of Education directly to our tutoring sessions. My goal is not just to help students complete homework, but to build the foundational skills and confidence they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

My Teaching Methodology & Techniques

I utilize a Student-Centered, Inquiry-Based approach. Since every child learns differently, I don't believe in a "one size fits all" method. My techniques include:

The Gradual Release of Responsibility: I follow the "I do, We do, You do" model. I model a concept, we practice it together, and then the student takes the lead once they feel confident.

Scaffolding: I break complex Ontario Curriculum expectations into "bite-sized" manageable steps to prevent burnout and frustration.

Multisensory Learning: For younger learners (K-3), I incorporate visual aids, manipulatives, and digital tools to make abstract concepts (like fractions or phonics) tangible.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Each session is structured to maximize engagement and retention:

The Check-In (5 mins): A quick "Minds On" activity or game to build rapport and assess the student's current mood and energy level.

We revisit the previous session's core concept to ensure it has moved into long-term memory. Introduction of a new skill or deep dive into a current school project, aligned strictly with the Ontario Curriculum. The student applies the learning through interactive exercises, while I provide immediate, constructive feedback. We summarize what was learned and set a small "mission" for the student to tackle before our next meet.

Unlike many tutors, I am a professionally trained educator. This means that I have a deep understanding of the Ontario Achievement Charts (Knowledge, Thinking, Communication, and Application). I know exactly what teachers are looking for during evaluations. I don't just teach; I constantly assess. I identify "learning gaps" that may have started in previous grades and work to bridge them.

I understand the social and academic pressures students face in today’s Ontario schools, allowing me to provide holistic support.

I specialize in supporting students from Kindergarten through Grade 6. I am qualified to teach all subjects across the Ontario Curriculum, including Language Arts (Reading/Writing), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Health.

Whether your child is looking for enrichment to get ahead, needs remediation to catch up, or requires support with organization and executive functioning, I tailor my curriculum delivery to meet their specific IEP (Individual Education Plan) goals or general academic needs.
