About Erin

I have my Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of California Santa Barbara. I earned both my CA teaching credential and Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education with a specialization in Autism. I then went on to work as a Behavior Support Specialist for 5 years and then teach as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher for 15 years for the San Diego Unified School District. I am currently working as an Education Consultant and continue to teach and tutor young children with a range of disabilities. I love what I do as I get to play with kids all day and help advocate for young children and their families.

About the lesson

Hi! My name is Erin Blackmar and I am passionate about my career in Special Education. I absolutely love working with young children with disabilities (I have a MA in Early Childhood Special Education with a specialization in Autism). I have 15 years of experience working as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher for the San Diego Unified School District and 5 years working as a Behavior Support Specialist (ABA). I truly enjoy working with young children and their families and I believe it is important to advocate for my clients and their families. I am happy to review IEP’s and consult with families who need help navigating special education within the school system. I work hard to help you understand your rights and the rights of your child. I assist families by reviewing IEP’s, ensuring it is high quality and that it is being fully implemented correctly. It’s important that all present levels, goals, services, assessments and placements are reflective of your child’s abilities and needs. I am available to review IEP’s and assessments, attend IEP meetings, act as a consultant to advocate for your child, tutor your child or meet with families to help empower you so that you can best advocate for your child. I myself have a son with a disability and I know how intimidating school districts can be and how important it is to know your rights as a parent and stand up for your child when you feel like they are not getting their needs met at school. I would love to share resources with you and help be your support system throughout the IEP process so your child is successful in school and beyond! Together we can do this!
