About Lucy
I have more than 2 years of English tutoring experience working with students grades K-12. I graduated with an associate degree in English literature at 18 years old, earning a 4.0. I am now a college student and double major in Government and English with a focus on writing and rhetoric. I have a 3.94 GPA and serve as a peer mentor in the Honors College where I help college freshman learn to perform academic research. Outside of school, I compete for my school speech team, solve lots of crossword puzzles, and take care of my dog!

A typical lesson for a 1st grader would look like:
10 minutes of sight word work and practice
15 minutes spelling or phonics depending on their level
20 minutes reading level and skill appropriate books tailored to the students interests
10 minutes playing a game (sight word bingo, story creation, etc.)
5 minutes reviewing the session and talking about their week at school
I try to individualize my teaching to their abilities and interests. For example, if a student mentions liking animals a lot I will try to find readings and worksheets about animals so they stay engaged.
