About Jay
I'm a former scientific researcher in the midst of changing careers to becoming a clinical psychologist. I'm deeply passionate about the natural world and helping people, which is probably why I've embraced ecology as well as wanting to pursue psychology.
From being a student and academic researcher, I understand what it takes to get through classes and what the next stages are in advancement, but also what the pitfalls and drawbacks are. Academia can be challenging, and not everyone ends up being where they want to be.
I like to always focus on the context of the subject, which includes mental well being, to make sure that each student does as well as they possibly can.

I am a part-time tutor in Melbourne (Naarm), where I use my education and research experience from the United States, Australia, and New Zealand to help students make the most of their courses and navigate a career in science.
My career started as a research assistant at Harvard University, which then led to a PhD in Ecology from the University of Otago in New Zealand. Most recently I was a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Adelaide, before becoming a researcher in Melbourne.
I believe that my experience from being an undergraduate, to a post-graduate, and to researcher can brings the context that matters to each subject. It's important to me that the students I tutor realise their potential to find success and navigate their career, academic or otherwise.
