About Rea Mae

I understand that learning a language can feel vulnerable, so I make professionalism the foundation of every lesson. I begin with a clear needs assessment and a personalized learning plan, so students know exactly what we are working toward and how progress will be measured. Each session is well-prepared, punctual, and structured, with transparent feedback, portfolios, and before-and-after samples that show real improvement over time. I draw on proven, research-based methods in reading, writing, and speaking, and I am always open about my qualifications, experience, and approach as an English teacher of 1.2 years with a professional teacher's license, TESOL certificate, and TEFL certificate. Above all, I listen first and respect each student's goals, so they feel safe taking risks, trust the process, and see that I am invested in their success.

I tailor my teaching method based on the learner's learning style and where he/she will be comfortable. I act as a facilitator and coach where I ask, listen, and adjust to my students learning style.

My lesson plan has 6 stages: First stage—Check-in and goals: we start with a casual conversation, review the last session's goal, and set today's focus; Second stage—Warm-up/Speaking, where there will be a short, low-stakes speaking activity connected to the day's theme with the use of a picture prompt, quick opinion question, or story retelling; Third stage—Reading, where the learner previews and reads a text of his/her choice, followed by text analysis; Fourth stage—Writing, where a focused task (response paragraph, summary, email, or opinion piece) tied to the reading will be done by the learner after I briefly model it and will then be reviewed together and be subjected to peer-style feedback; Fifth - Language focus and feedback, where patterns from the learner's own speech and writing will be practiced in new sentences (written and spoken); and Sixth - Reflection and next session preparation, where the learner will state what he/she learned, what felt hard, and what to practice. We then plan a short, realistic homework task and then choose the next session's topic.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to deliver a personalized learning plan tailored on the best interest of every learner I teach. I create a safe space to make mistakes as I normalize errors as evidence of learning. Many learners freeze when speaking which is addressed through designing activities that will build confidence gradually. I integrate all three skills with an understanding that reading feeds vocabulary, vocabulary feeds writing, and writing feeds speaking. I connect them so progress in one reinforces others. I also practice transparent progress tracking, I carry out real-world relevance, I am patient and empathetic in communicating with the learner, and I uphold cultural and learner awareness and respect.

My lessons are for middle to senior high school students who wanted to achieve reading, writing, and speaking skills personally or academically.
