About Amanda

Hello! It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Amanda Hernandez, and I'm 20 years old. I was born and raised in Costa Rica until a few years ago when I moved to this country. I'm currently studying to obtain my teaching major. I've been tutoring privately for approximately five years. Back in my country, I tutored English and Spanish, among other subjects, but when I arrived here, I focused more specifically on Spanish. I typically work with children from elementary school to high school, but I've also worked with adults. In addition, my students have had different levels of Spanish, from beginners to more advanced. Communication is very important to me because this way I can ensure that the lesson I designed is working or if it needs to be changed to better accommodate the student. Regardless of whether you choose to tutor with me or another teacher, remember that everything can be learned with persistence and effort! Good luck on your learning journey.

About the lesson

My teaching techniques are based on different practices such as flashcards, conversation, games, and other activities for beginners. This helps ensure the language isn't overwhelming and provides a smooth introduction for students. For more advanced speakers, other activities will be implemented, such as more reading and writing, as well as helping to reduce the accent with more conversation. Constant practice is essential for learning a new language, so it's best to have varied activities to ensure the class doesn't become monotonous or uninteresting. If the goal of the student is preparing for a test, complete homework/projects, or just to improve for a Spanish class they are already taking in school or college we can also focus on those specific areas instead of a more broad approach. My typical lesson will depend a lot on what works for each student, not all students learn the same way and I would like to know you better in our first class to determine what would work better for you and the level you’re in. I try to be flexible with my students, communication is key to maintain a good learning environment so if you feel something is not working for you I welcome you to discuss it with me to find a better solution and help you improve. I work mostly with children from elementary school to high school, although I’ve also worked with adults. All of my past students have varied on their Spanish level, from beginners to advanced, there’s always things we can improve!
