About Elizabeth
I'm an astrobiology major working at an elementary school part-time while going to college. I used to hate math, but I had a really good teacher in high school who made me fall in love with the subject. I want to help students the way that that teacher helped me, so that they don't grow up hating or fearing math. I've tutored math professionally at an Elementary/Middle School full-time before COVID, and I'm excited to tutor again.

I will start with an initial interview with the student where I have them answer some questions about their feelings on math, what math they've been taught so far, and what they want to achieve with my lessons. Then, I will ask them to solve a few math problems so that I can scope out their current skill level.
After I formulate their lesson schedule, my main priority will be to make them as comfortable as possible, as I've found that it's difficult to learn when you're too anxious to focus. If the student becomes too anxious, then we will have a "brain break" where we spend 5 minutes doing something not math related to calm down the student (can be as simple as just chatting, but I've also put on music of the students choice, or played simple games that the students pick). I prioritize mental well-being during my lessons, and if you have any specific accommodations that you would like me to do, I'd be more than happy to do them.
At the end of each lesson, the student will complete a short review which is comprised of some problems from the lesson taught that day, along with one or two problems that were taught during previous lessons. Depending on how the student does on the review, I will make changes to the schedule.
If there is anything you or their teacher wants them to focus on, please let me know and I will change their schedule.
