About Maryjo

Holding a BFA in Music Industry from Belmont University, I started teaching as a favor for a friend's kid. I kept going because I enjoy seeing the moment a concept clicks for someone. My approach is simple because I keep the vocabulary plain until the idea lands, then we put the proper names on it.

I ask a lot of questions before I offer any answers. It is genuinely fun to see students grasp these concepts. Working with 10 years of experience, I cover electric technique, scales and modes, tuning and maintenance, blues progressions, grade exam prep, and songwriting.

You will find that sitting down with a guitar usually involves a chat about what you want to achieve before we plug in. I address your specific goals by starting with a free trial session to assess your starting level so we do not waste time on things you already know.

My background as a session player means I focus on what gets a song cut rather than just playing exercises. Because I keep the vocabulary simple, you get the actual mechanics without the confusion of industry jargon. You might find that I am a bit chill but very focused on the practical application of your playing. Dealing with your instrument in a studio environment is about more than just theory.

We ensure your technique is solid while keeping the creative fire burning. I bring the reality of professional sessions to every minute we spend together. You will walk away with a better grasp of your fretboard.
