About Kristine

Howdy! My name is Dr. Kristy Solberg, and I am an experienced educator and instructional leader with a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and over a decade of experience supporting student learning and achievement. I have served as an elementary principal and teacher, working closely with students, families, and educators to strengthen reading, literacy, and academic confidence. Throughout my career, I have focused on helping students build strong foundational skills that lead to long-term academic success.

My expertise is in elementary literacy, reading comprehension, and STAAR preparation. I have extensive experience analyzing student data, identifying learning gaps, and implementing targeted strategies that help students improve reading fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. I understand the expectations of state assessments and guide students in developing the strategies needed to approach reading passages and questions with confidence.

I am also bilingual in Spanish, which allows me to support bilingual students and multilingual learners while helping them strengthen literacy skills in English. This can be especially helpful for students who benefit from additional language support as they build reading comprehension and vocabulary.

As a tutor, I create a supportive and structured learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions, take risks, and grow as learners. I believe every student can become a confident reader when they receive clear instruction, thoughtful feedback, and opportunities to practice effective literacy strategies. My goal is not only to help students improve their performance on assessments such as STAAR, but also to help them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in school and beyond.

I am committed to professionalism, clear communication, and individualized support for every student I work with. Each tutoring session is designed to meet the student’s needs while building strong literacy habits that support success across all subject areas

About the lesson

My tutoring approach focuses on building strong literacy foundations while increasing student confidence and independence as readers. With a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and extensive experience as an elementary principal and educator, I use research-based strategies to help students strengthen reading comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency, and writing skills. I believe students learn best when instruction is structured, engaging, and tailored to their individual needs. I use guided reading, explicit modeling, questioning strategies, and scaffolded practice to help students understand how to think through texts rather than simply find answers.

A typical tutoring session begins with a brief warm-up activity that targets a specific literacy skill such as vocabulary, fluency, or comprehension. Next, we engage in a focused reading activity using grade-level or slightly challenging texts where I model strategies such as identifying the main idea, analyzing text evidence, or making inferences. Students then practice applying these strategies with guided support. Lessons often include STAAR-style questions and passages so students become comfortable with the structure and expectations of the assessment. Each session ends with a short review, feedback, and a clear strategy the student can use when reading independently.

What sets me apart is my background in instructional leadership and literacy development. As a former elementary principal, I have coached teachers, analyzed student performance data, and implemented reading interventions that improved student outcomes. I understand how literacy develops across grade levels and how to target the specific skills students need to grow. My goal is not only to help students prepare for assessments such as STAAR, but also to help them become confident readers who can understand and enjoy what they read.

My tutoring sessions are designed for elementary and middle school students who want to strengthen reading comprehension, literacy skills, and test readiness. I work especially well with students who need additional support building foundational reading strategies, preparing for STAAR assessments, or improving overall academic confidence. Sessions can be adapted for struggling readers, students who need targeted intervention, or those who want to advance their reading and comprehension skills
