About Pamela
I am an MBA graduate with an undergraduate degree in Healthcare Administration. Over the course of my 30 year professional career, I have written materials with focus from highly technical analytical 6papers to marketing and informational materials at lower grade reading level. I have worked with children in the elementary grade levels in multiple capacities as 4-H instructor, coach, mentor, and tutor. A child succeeds when they are encouraged at every step along the way.

My approach with tutoring is to determine areas of interest for each student to identify the topics they actually would want to read about. The student and I pick books to read together and have established goals for number of pages to read. I meet a minimum of 2 hours per week with each child in a virtual format.
With struggling students, I take turns reading and listening to child reading aloud. The use of sight words and techniques for stumbling blocks of how to pronounce proper names, which sometimes slow a reading down and frustrate them, are utilized. Emphasis is given to reading with intonation of punctuation for reading aloud lessons. Writing skills are taught in conjuction with reading and cover topics such as how to identify the main points of an essay, supporting statements, and fact vs opinion writing.
