About Kersten
My name is Kersten Kirkendall, and I have always had a passion for teaching! I have taught a first grade reading/phonics class, I have taught a second grade class (all subjects) and fifth grade (all subjects). in the past two years I have earned a Masters Degree in Reading and was able to work with an Elementary age student and High School age student in reading abilities which was an awesome experience.
I have just became a stay at home mom with my first child, a sweet, handsome little boy. My husband and I adore him and our mini poodle named Charlie. We enjoy trying new restaurants, new ice cream flavors and traveling!

About the lesson

My lessons are 30 to 60 minutes long (you choose!). I will accommodate my lessons based on the student, building in natural breaks if needed.
I will start my lesson with a quick "highlight" of the day to build a relationship with the student so they feel more confident and comfortable to make mistakes and learn during the lesson. Getting to know the students interest will also help me to build the lessons around their interests.
I plan my lessons based solely on the students needs and strengths, and in order to do this I will start with a pre-test in order to know how to best help your child succeed. I will provide my findings and plans moving forward with the guardians as well as informal and formal assessments to ensure growth is occurring, and if not I will change my lessons to best support the student.
Throughout the duration of my tutoring I will be in contact with the guardians to provide updates and always have open communication so everyone is "on the same page"
