About Charles
My name is Chuck Gunsten, and I’m currently a 3rd grade teacher at Global Arts Plus. This is my first year teaching 3rd grade, but I’ve been working in education for over 20 years, with experience in grades 3 through 6. I’ve been a teacher in St. Paul Public Schools since 2011, and prior to that, I taught 5th and 6th grade in both Bloomington and Seattle. I’m a proud St. Paul native and graduate of St. Paul Public Schools! As a tutor, I specialize in supporting elementary students with foundational skills in reading, writing, and math. My approach is relationship-driven, personalized, and focused on building both academic confidence and skills. I also use technology to make learning engaging and accessible. When I’m not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, traveling, and cheering on Minnesota sports teams. I look forward to working with families and helping students grow through individualized support. Please feel free to reach out with any questions—I’m here to help!

As a 3rd grade teacher with 20 years of experience in grades 3–6, my tutoring approach focuses on relationship-building, personalized academic support, and the effective use of technology. I create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable, confident, and motivated to grow.
**Teaching Methods:**
I tailor each session to the student's needs, using direct instruction, guided practice, and interactive tools. I regularly assess progress and adjust my approach to ensure understanding and engagement.
**Typical Lesson:**
Each lesson begins with a quick check-in and review, followed by focused instruction using a mix of hands-on activities and digital tools. We close with a recap and set goals for the next session.
**What Sets Me Apart:**
I build strong connections with students, which helps me support both their academic and emotional development. My classroom experience and tech skills allow me to create dynamic, individualized learning experiences.
**Who I Teach:**
I specialize in tutoring elementary students (grades 3–6) who need support in reading, writing, or math—whether they’re catching up, building confidence, or seeking enrichment.
