I strongly believe students with a firm foundation in reading will prosper in their future education. Phonics is the focus when it comes to basic reading skills. I use a variety of approaches to teach concepts including music, videos and colorful charts. A typical lower level lesson includes sight word practice of 5-10 words, phonics focus and then a reading fluency practice. For upper grades, I do higher level vocabulary words, reading comprehension strategies and a reading fluency and comprehension check. These lesson are for elementary aged children from 6 to 10 years old in grades 1st through 5th.
