I am thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce myself and share my passion for teaching Chinese. My name is Selina Teng, and I am enthusiastic about helping you embark on a rewarding language-learning journey.

With my extensive background in Chinese language and interpretation, I am confident in my ability to guide you towards proficiency and fluency. As a native speaker of both Mandarin and Cantonese hailing from Hong Kong, I bring a deep understanding of the language's nuances, cultural context, and rich linguistic heritage to our lessons.

I firmly believe that you will have the potential to learn and excel in language acquisition, regardless of your background or prior experience. My utmost priority is to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment, where you feel encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and ultimately flourish.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring Chinese involves creating an immersive and engaging learning experience. I believe in a communicative and student-centred approach, where students actively participate in learning. My techniques involve interactive discussions, role-playing, multimedia resources, and real-life scenarios to simulate authentic language usage.

In my classes, I prioritise building a solid foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. I incorporate a variety of teaching methodologies, including task-based learning, language games, cultural exploration, and targeted exercises, to cater to different learning styles and make the lessons enjoyable and effective.

The typical length of my lessons depends on the individual needs and preferences of the students. Generally, a session can range from 1 to 2 hours, allowing ample time for meaningful practice, feedback, and addressing specific areas of improvement.

As a third-year university student currently studying for a Bachelor's in Chinese translating and Interpretation, specialising in Secondary Education at the University of Queensland, I have undergone comprehensive training in language teaching methodologies and have acquired practical experience through internships and teaching placements. Additionally, I stay updated with the latest pedagogical approaches and resources to ensure the highest quality of instruction.

My lessons are designed for learners of various levels, from beginners to advanced, and for individuals of different age groups. I provide tailored instruction to children, teenagers, and adults motivated to learn and improve their proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese.

He is highly dedicated and motivated to learn, consistently showing a strong commitment to his studies. John is a high achiever, particularly excelling in quizzes and spoken Chinese. While his speaking skills are outstanding, there is room for further progress to enhance his reading skills with Hanzi characters. It is my pleasure to have John as my student.
