About Matt
Hi There! Here's a brief description of my writing background. In the past, I worked as a writer’s assistant to the co-creator of King Of Queens, then followed him over to the Big Bang Theory. When another one of his pilots (Regular Joe) was picked up, he put me on staff. After that show wasn’t renewed, I, oddly enough, was hired on The Young & The Restless as Script Editor, where I was tasked with going through each draft, eliminating all soap opera tropes, and injecting fast-paced, humorous dialogue for the new batch of twenty-somethings the Network had recently hired. That was a trip. I even walked away with a Daytime Emmy and WGA Award. But during that time, I wrote a few shorts that had some luck on the festival circuit (Strayed Outta Compton, Bad News Pairs, and Apeulogy), and my most recent one, Across The Room is also being met with a warm reception (Best Comedy at New York International Film Awards, Best Comedy at UK Monthly Film Festival, Best Indie Short at Festigious International Film Festival, Bronze Award for Best Comedy at Independent Shorts Awards, current Best RomCom nominee at Portland Comedy Film Festival). The director and I even got a couple of small write-ups: (concealed information) (concealed information) MrLZv (concealed information) 3FFB3Ja5Rp8bjNpfpBLGHjdbyK0z5UyqdAh_lEsMsRnnXxiKlk5Sshtc In addition, I have two comedy features in development, Have James Franco Pay Your Rent, and *Wedding Not Guaranteed.

Depending on what level you're at, we'll focus on breaking down your story, outlining, plot & character development, and proper screenplay formatting. I'll pass along what I've learned from my almost thirty years in this industry, how the writer's room works, tips for pitching your project, and what agents/producers/managers/etc. look for in an undiscovered writer. I'll also discuss screenplay techniques that raise immediate red flags, so you can avoid them. My lessons are designed for screenwriters of all ages and levels of experience.
