About Sophia
I have 6 years of intensive academic training in critical reading and analytical writing skills. I have experience analyzing and deconstructing challenging themes from classical works (Plato’s Symposium, Sophocles’ Three Theban Plays) to contemporary pieces (Toni Morrison’s Beloved, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini). My exceptional reading comprehension skills are documented in standardized tests through primary education and have been sharpened by the rigor of collegiate seminars.

I see teaching as a two-way street - my job is best done when I learn how my pupils learn and tailor my lesson plans to the needs of the group or individual. I prefer a heavily participatory classroom norm: we all come together having read a portion of our common text, and I open the floor to students’ interpretations of the passages and themes they found most salient. If our session is focused on specific comprehension goals, I will build in exercises and insert targeted textual questions in the flow of the lesson to ensure we exercise a full range of comprehension muscles and hit our goals for advancing levels of textual understanding.
