About Katie
I am a double major in violin music performance and neuroscience at Emory University on a full tuition scholarship for music. I've played violin for 15 years and have had many years of teaching experience, especially for younger children and beginners. I have performed in many elite ensembles such as GA All-State and Emory Symphonies, masterclasses, and local gigs. I also conduct music cognition research at Emory. I currently teach as a substitute for a fine arts academy in Atlanta and love to teach young children not only how to play the violin, but how to learn to love music.

I focus on the essentials of theory and technique and like to establish a firm foundation before progressing. I prefer to use the Suzuki method and scale/rhythm fundamental books. I always advocate for positive reinforcement and encouraging suggestions rather than any negative vocalizations.
Lessons will always start with a warm up and then a review of the previous lessons' material before assigning anything more advanced. If a student is dealing with more advanced materials or preparing for auditions for youth orchestras/all-state my attention would be focused on whatever the student prioritizes.
I also offer insight into college admissions and the process of applying with music as a "spike" for your application.
